Where are the Afton Mountain Vineyards located?

Afton Mountain Vineyards is located at 234 Vineyard Lane, Afton, VA 22920, nestled in Virginia’s beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. We’re conveniently situated in Nelson County, making us easily accessible from Charlottesville, Richmond, and the greater Virginia wine country region.

  • From Charlottesville: Approximately 20 minutes via I-64 West and Route 151 South
  • From Richmond: About 1.5 hours via I-64 West
  • From Washington, D.C.: Approximately 2.5 hours via I-66 West to I-64 West
  • From Lynchburg: About 45 minutes via Route 29 North to I-64 East

Yes! We welcome RVs, but please call ahead at 540-456-8667 to ensure we can accommodate your vehicle size and make proper arrangements.

What are your operating hours?
Our hours vary by season:
  • November through April: Thursday-Monday, 11AM-5PM
  • May through October:
    • Sunday, Monday, Thursday: 11AM-5PM
    • Friday: 11AM-6PM
    • Saturday: 11AM-7:30PM
We’re closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Easter.

Reservations are not required for regular wine tastings, bottle purchases, or dining in our pavilion. However, we do require advance reservations for:

  • Private tastings (up to 15 guests)
  • Groups seeking guided tastings at 11AM, 12PM, or 1PM
  • Table reservations in our glass Pavilion

Wine Tastings & Experiences

What wine tasting options do you offer?

We offer several tasting experiences:

  • Guided Flights: $20 per person
  • Guided Bar Tastings: $25 per person (up to 8 guests)
  • Private Tastings: $30 per person (up to 15 guests, by reservation)

Yes! We welcome groups up to 15 people for private tastings with advance reservations. Larger groups are welcome for bottle and glass sales without reservations needed.

Food & Dining

Do you serve food?

We offer light snack fare including:

  • Local cheeses from Mountain View Farms and Razzbourne Farms
  • Jams and spreads from Eggie Lope
  • Artisanal chocolates from Laurie’s Chocolates in Staunton, VA
  • Charcuterie selections with meats and crackers
Absolutely! You’re welcome to bring your own picnic to enjoy in our Pavilion or outdoor picnic areas. Please note that outside alcohol is prohibited by Virginia ABC law.

You can enjoy food and wine in several areas:

  • Our temperature-controlled glass Pavilion (year-round)
  • Expansive lawn and picnic areas (weather permitting)
  • Indoor tasting room All outdoor tables are first-come, first-served.

Family & Pet Policies

Are children welcome?
Yes! Families are welcome in both our pavilion and tasting room. However, you must be 21 years of age to purchase or consume wine. For our cottage accommodations, we have different policies (see accommodation section below).

Well-behaved, leashed pets are welcome in the pavilion and tasting room areas. For cottage stays, we have specific pet policies with associated fees.

Cottage Accommodations

What types of accommodations do you offer?

We offer romantic cottages and a two-bedroom guest house nestled on our vineyard property, providing an intimate wine country getaway experience.

  • Check-in: Anytime after 4:00 PM
  • Check-out: By 11:00 AM
Our cottages are designed as a romantic couples retreat. We do not allow children under 10 years of age, infants, or toddlers. Children 10 and older are charged as adults and subject to occupancy limits.

Dogs are permitted in all cottages for a $65 non-refundable pet fee per pet, per night. We welcome up to two dogs per cottage (maximum 45 lbs each). Other animals are not permitted. Service animals are always welcome without fees.  Please review all our policies before booking.

We require a two or three-night minimum stay on weekends (Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday), holidays, and during special winery events.
Afton Mountain Vineyards is completely smoke-free, including vaping, tobacco, and cannabis. Smoking anywhere on the property results in a minimum $250 cleaning fee.
  • Cancellations made 7+ days in advance: Full refund less 10% handling fee, or 100% exchange for gift certificate
  • Cancellations made 6 days or less: Refunded only if we can re-book your room
  • All cancellations must be made by phone

Yes! We recycle all of our glass bottles on site, and there are recycling stations available in all public areas and overnight cottages for things like paper, cardboard, or plastic. No need to sort your recyclables…our partner company handles that for you!

Do you host private events?

Our property is for registered guests only to maintain a peaceful atmosphere. Visitors can register with staff during business hours but must depart by 8PM.  Please review all our policies before booking.

Items found on property are held in our Lost & Found for 30 days. We’ll make reasonable efforts to contact you if items are found after checkout. Shipping costs for returned items are at the owner’s expense.
